SANDY BAY LIGHTHOUSE
ABOUT SANDY BAY LIGHTHOUSE MINISTRIES
Sandy Bay Lighthouse Ministries is non-profit, non-denominational, Christian organization that exists to address the needs of the underprivileged people of Roatan, Honduras by providing a loving, safe shelter for at-risk children; a quality bilingual Christian education to prepare children for a secure future; and to facilitate short-term, life-changing ministry opportunities for small groups. Our vision is to expand our current ministries through accommodating additional children, expanding enrollment in our Beacon Academy and hosting additional teams. Our staff and directors are committed to the highest ethical standards and strive to conduct a ministry which exemplifies clear Christian values.
ABOUT BEACON SCHOOL
Beacon School is a major part of the ministry and mission of Sandy Bay Lighthouse Ministry. Their goal is to teach and train the children under our care at the home but our vision is to add enrollment from children in the community. The educational curriculum includes classes in both the native Spanish language and English, which will better prepare the children for careers in tourism, Roatan’s major industry. They seek to teach students to the highest standards of academics, character development, and Christian values. The hope is to empower students to live a productive life and to make Roatan and the world a better place to live.
The school is expanding and will eventually accommodate 140 students in grades Kindergarten through grade 8. The current school building was just built and opened in 2018 with the main level complete. The second level of the school is under construction and will be completed by the end of 2021 as our class size will require. The God Forgive's Foundation is helping to fund the second level. The school currently employs a staff of six teachers ~ four Spanish curriculum and two English curriculum. We have been accreditied by the Department of Education of Honduras.
The long-range goals include both the final construction for the school building and expanding our curriculum to include trade skill education for both our own students and for adults on the island. We are anxious to serve the wider community by offering evening adult classes to learn basic English so that employment opportunities might expand for them.
